Its a general theory that has to do with open water and rockwalls around canals. The trevs will push the bait away from the sun, cos the bait acts like tiny little mirrors, and predators can easily see the prey. If they feed into the sun, they cant see the bait as easily, until the sun goes down. So if they have a choice of rockwalls in a canal, they will go to the side that reflects sunlight to em.

Its only a general theory, you then have to take local conditions into account. Id say your spot has 2 canals intersecting, or a bend in a river with a point that creates a back eddy? Bait would then hold in the eddy regardless of sunlight.

Just a theory, Im no expert, but Ive been shown this tip by oldtimers and it often holds true.

    cheers

Ive found thats the same principal, just on a smaller version when i jig for herring.
They will lie in wait in the shadows of the bridge, jetty or large boat and when i work the jig just on the sunshine side of that line they must be able to see it better and bite.
Of a night time its the same, where the jetty light or street light make that shadow line is where they are...

    cheers

Well done! 2 jacks in 2 days is pretty damn good, fresh flesh baits work extremely well too. I hooked up to a stonka the other week but straightened the hook after I got it out of the rocks ;(

Andrew - Love talking to the old guys- they know some stuff.

Ariene - One was 60+, the other was a little bigger.

Spewin about this rain, tonight is pretty balmy could be good on the top of tide if the water is clean somewhere.

Jacks often feed in with the schools of trevs, so dont think its just trevs on their own. They mingle nicely when they are feeding on baitfish. Yes the bait moves on up the river, and they find a new spot.

Doesnt look like you need much help with spots, but of you want a tip......the trevs smash up the bait against a rockwall AWAY FROM THE SUNLIGHT, so at sunSET, stand with the sun behind your back, and face the direction of the East, and thats where the trevs push the bait fish to. They never feed into the sun.

At sunrise, they will push the bait West, etc.

    cheers
