Hello from Maryborough / Dampier
Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would stop in and say hi. My name is Ben, I live in Maryborough Qld, but I work in Dampier WA. Never really been into fishing until I started working here, but I have fallen into it full throttle. I am lucky enough that my house mate here has a boat, so we get plenty of time in the Dampier Archipelago.
We do it tough here - Spanish Mackerel, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Blue Bone, Barra etc etc...
Just thought I'd sign up to get a better feel for where, when, how to fish in Qld, as I am yet to spend a lot of time fishing here.
Look forward to talking and learning from you all.
Cheers,
Ben

Re: Hello from Maryborough / Dampier
THere are fish in Maryborough Benno, but you need to spend a bit of time finding them. Then, just when you've found them, they move!
But even though it's tough sometimes to get a feed there's some beautiful spots in the Sandy Strait, and in the Mary and Susan. Don't know much about the bay but there are a few ausfishers who do and will fill you in. Welcome aboard.

Re: Hello from Maryborough / Dampier
Thanks for the welcomes Lads.
Haven't fished Maryborough yet, but did get some flatties and Whiting from Shelly Beach and the Urangan Pier.
Managed to get out on Ally Jay too, but the fish were pretty quiet - it was an interesting day none-the-less.
Wouldn't mind hitting the end of jetty next time I am home to have a crack at the pelagics I hear live out there.
Thanks Again.

Hello Mrs Benno (Very confusing as I have one of those too!),
Would love to tell you our trip on Sunday had all sorts of awesome fishing action, but the weather here was diabolical.
I got on to a decent Mack Tuna on 6lb, but got the sharks were just to quick. Two of the other boys each got 4-5kg Mack Tuna on the boat on 8lb, so it wasn't a total write off.
Hopefully next week, I can get my first Barra up here.
Cheers,
Ben

Re: Hello from Maryborough / Dampier
Howdy Muddy,
You are right about that - I go fishing with a mate for whiting off the Urangan Pier, and I can't get as excited as him when we get a whiting! "It's no Coral Trout/Red Emporer/Rankin... blah blah blah" I always think.
Maybe fishing up here in Dampier has turned me into a fishing snob. Just hope I can get a GT / Mackie off the end of the pier to get me back in the groove on the East Coast!!!
