Thumbs up Little electric lead melters

    I found these little suckers.
Might be good for those who make small sinkers or their own jigheads.
Cheap enough to try out and can hold 2.3 kgs of lead by the blurb.
They would be a lot safer then having the gas going and, because the heat can be controlled, won't give out as many bad fumes.
You'd be able to get just the right heat I reckon

I think cast temp is about 320 deg and melt 250 deg. Ones I have used have more watts to hold those temps. Might be OK?

Not exactly expensive but I do like the ones you can tap off.

I prefer the Lee Production Pot IV. It has a small tap that when open pours the lead from under the pot through tiny spout. With the Aussie dollar so strong ATM these are becoming more affordable also for the guys who do a fair bit of their own lure, jighead or sinker casting.

I have a Lee one also got it from Melbourne from a gun shop that sells bullet making stuff (ebay) cheaper then I could from the states about 12 months ago now.

If works fantastic on small sinkers but snapper sinkers become a problem trying to get them under the spout, so I modified mine to make it another 4cm higher. The other problem is the spout is a little small to pour large sinkers as the sinkers end up a bit crappy looking, but hay its a sinker...

Oh and it holds the heat no problem at all after the lead is molten I can turn it back to 4/10 and pour no problems at all, then up the heat when adding more lead for about 5min and your back pouring again.

    Cheers

    Re: Little electric lead melters

    Guys
How do you get on without heating up the mold first?
i do alot of sinkers and im guessing that the temp of the lead might be just on melt. as i pour the lead into the molds it would start to cool down to fast and end up blocking the inlet.so i heat up the mold on the gas ring and now pour perfect sinkers every time.
but yes one of those would make life very easy....

I'll add a third to the Lee Production pot. Be careful if you order from overseas that you get the 220/240V version though (some do sell them inaddition to the 120V).

Would love to see how the modification was done also, I tend to put the bigger molds in on an angle to get them to pour, or have to turn on the gas and pot.

Anything over 2oz and the pour speed is not fast enough as it comes from the factory. If you want to pour bigger molds more often, drain the pot, remove the stopper, and run a drill through the spout. The stopper still works as its cone shaped - only down size is then going back to pouring things like 1/32 jig heads its a bit too fast.

OH, and dont bother trying to pur a 10# downrigger ball on the Lee

Finga, I think the pot that you have put up would be perfect for melting soft plastics

I will try and get some pictures of how I did it.

    Re: Little electric lead melters

Just thought I would add them pictures of my quick mod to my Lee Pro, so i could fit larger molds under the spout.
