    Re: anyone else dislike bream

when ever i go fishing i always catch whiting on worms while everyone else catches nothing but bream. I find its cause i use a trace and swivel with size8 hook and as small a lead as possible where as everyone else runs the sinker straight to the hook with a bream hook or 1/0. I have been told its all to do with the trace but ive caught plenty of flatty and bream while using the same rig and even squire and tailor a few times.

    cheers, Neil

    Re: anyone else dislike bream

hey there wayne, i am using around 2 metres of 2.5kg hook length with size 4 long shank worm hook attatching to swivel and small pea sized sinker with same strenghth mainline. i am fishing off boat anchored up in the coomera river around the paradise point area often near the weed beds and green beacons. i am using an ugly stick platinum 1 to 4 kg fast tapered rod which was recomended by you down at bcf ( excellent rod thanks wayne) i am also leaving the rod in rod holder until the fish as hooked itself. everything seems right wayne but just getting bream after bream swallowing the hooks right down, any info on where i am going wrong would be greatly appreciated cheers jethro

yeah...i hate bream, caught them to 41cm, just cant get excited about them....
same as you, using baits targeting other quality fish and the bream pepper the bait before the snapper, jacks or whatever get a chance, there should be a random cull on bream!

Hi Jethro, didn't realize you were a local and a customer, line and trace size fine.

I use flurocarbon leader for my traces when i am whiting fishing, don't know if it helps with numbers but it certainly helps fooling those big fish.

The main thing wrong with your rig is the sinker size, i use a 4 ball, especially in the area your fishing, i don't know where these guys fish that use little sinkers but there can't be a lot of current like we have down here.

Your bait is not staying on the bottom using the size sinker you are using, that's why so many bream.

I also prefer a short shank hook size 4, you use a lot less worm this way, they are too hard to get to waste filling a long shank hook.

I did some filming for BCF last Thursday in that area and the best one we got was just over 41cm, next time you see me in the shop i will show you some more spots but your already in the right place. cheers wayne

Hi Jethro, i use between 1.5 and 2 meters of flurocarbon leader as a trace between the swivel and hook, cheers wayne PS not working this weekend only friday.
