It depends on what kind of money you want to spend if your going to go with the soron i would match it with the berkley Pro team soron stx rod 2-5kg, awesome rods i have one myself, and you will come away with both under $300,the reels are approx $180 and the rods around $100, but the sol by its self is around $300.

your really comparing apples with oranges, if your going to compare reels with the sol, your should put it up against the shimano stradic c14 or the sustain.

Yeah mate I agree with bennykenny here. You need to compare similar reels.

To answer your question though, the SOL is the winner. I have a few of them and never have they let me down and they get fished pretty much all the time every week.

Re: Abu soron stx or daiwa sol????

I'm going against the grain here. I recently built my son a rod, and teamed it up with a Abu Soron SX (not STX). Now, granted that my impression of this reel may have been swayed by the fact that it was only $100 (from Go Fishing in Nerang), but it was easily comparable to a Sol. If I was in the position where money was no issue, the only reason I'd go with the Sol would be for the availability of spare parts.
While I don't a a huge range of fancy reels, I do own Sols, Heartlands, Stradics etc, so it was quite easy to compare them side by side. Indeed, I spooled the Soron up the same evening as I spooled up a new stradic. Then watched the Soron preform the next day on a charter. I'm sold on the Soron, and it's not even the STX.

Anyway, that's just my experience and opinion.

no not a dropshot, its a berkley pro team soron stx rod, which are made for the reels, from memory they make them in the 1-3 and 2-5kg and i think another a bit heavier

I loved my Sol when I first bought it, great smooth drag and everything was just nice. It deteriorated very quickly though. Rinsing with fresh water after every trip and oiling the right parts every few months still had me replacing the bail roller and a couple of small things after about a year. Had it a few years now and it still going but nothing like the beautiful reel i felt in the shop. Just waiting for it to die so I can upgrade to a Stella and be done with it.

I have both a sol and a stradic, i had to replace the line roller bearing on the sol after just 1 trip, had the same roller bearing go on my excellor as well, but the stradic is still going great.
