    GT,Jew in the Maroochydore/Mooloolaba river

    hi,
I was just wandering where can i catch some larger species. I have caught a couple of GT but never a Jew. i always fish the cod hole maroochydore and have caught 2 GT, cod, 71cm flathead all on soft plastics. it would be great to catch a GT but i'm really looking forward to catching a Jew. I use Berkley Gulp!/Powerbait! 3-5kg rod with 10lb line and 12-20lb leader. Also i'm 13. Location, Soft plastic and weight, leader, time and more. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    hey buddy,
I found the more time you put into it the better results you get, you can pull jew out of anywhere in the river. if your over the cod hole and want a change get over to the mouth and cast a couple of hundred times into the current and retrieve back with it crossing the channels. try a heavy jig head big shad with a green back and light belly every morning of the week before school or whatever you do, if this doesnt work try everyafternoon. and dont forget to take the camera. people catchem on all kinds of moons and tides baits and plastics you can do it all week and not catch a fish and the next week you might get three or more, thats why you really gotta get those plastics in the water and enjoy the suspence of every retrieve you make.

itsounds like you might be enjoying yourself at the codhole and like many fisherman targeting a species they get Bycatch,gt, cod flathead, if you catching flathead in the cod hole on your plastics, keep throwing them there cause they are a common bycatch with throwing plastics for jew in the river and it means your plastics in the right spot.. try a larger more natural style retrieve with the shad allows the tail to really wobble, if your using something without a wobbly tail you can get a little more jerky with it

good luck make sure you post some photos of your fish. be good to see the size of your cod and GT in maroochyriver

Do you want to catch a jewie solely on lure or are you open to bait as well?

My arm could potentially be twisted to share the spot at which I've caught most of my jewies (on bait, fillet/prawn on snelled hooks, livies etc). You have to put in the time there, best on evening, night or very early morning.

    PM me if you like.

As for plastic.. Right hand side of the bridge on Maroochydore side with 4" flick baits. Again, you have to put in the time, but you will get one sooner or later.
If you can get a hold of a couple of thready busters they're a definite goer there too. If not, MF50's go alright too.

Thanks so much guys, I have also found that you have to put in the time as i have only been catching 1 fish on the plastics for a whole days fishing. I am willing to give lives ago too. thanks for the info i will get to the mouth and flick some plastics as soon as posible. also i will try the right side of the cod hole.
    Thanks fishinwahbee

try time your trips round the turn of the tide to mate. your still a chance of a jewy when the tides running but they do become a bit more active in the slack water at the turn of the tide. also white plastic like 5 & 7" gulp jerk shads work a treat!

Interestingly I've found the opposite. Nearly all of my jew have been caught whilst the tide has been running hard.
