    Curtin Reef Kingfish video

Looked to be a nice day today, so took my boy and 2 of his mates across to Curtin Artificial Reef to chase some Kingfish. Early start from Dohles Rocks and out to Suttons Beach at Redcliffe to get some live pike where we found it very hard again although we did get a few and managed to jig a just a few more at M8 beacon on the way across.
Most people here have seen the youtube video we did on how to catch pike so we decided to get some footage of actually catching kingfish. Had to add a soundtrack as it was quite windy and the audio came out way too scratchy.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat it and fall asleep.

Teach a man to fish and he'll endanger an entire species

Peter, that is awesome footage of some serious kingie action. Great coaching of the kids in playing fish. How to 'help' without 'helping' if ya know what I mean. I reckon in a few years time you will see those young blokes deckying on a game boat chasing serious billies....they have that 'look' about them.

Best fishing vid I have seen in years.

    Thanks
    Greg

Thanks for sharing Peter. What sort of rig are you sending the pike down with? Can't quite see on the vid but it looks to be unweighted.

    Re: Curtin Reef Kingfish video

thanks for sharing peter...great footage. the boat seems to be a stable fishing platform considering the pob and the amount people were moving about while hooked up...what is it?

peter i would be very interested to know how you fish your pike on curtain? weather you have them near the bottom or float them 2 or 3 meters under something. they are deadly on big sweetlip on bulwer ledge fishd hard on the bottom via a paternoster rig.

swanny22 - the ride over was flat on the way over and got lumpy and wet on the way back.

cuzza - we were only just talking about noahs over there and I was surprised that we hadnt seen any yet. A couple of years ago there was a couple of guys catching huge sharks at M8 using whole mackeral as bait.

Dezzer - just standard sinker-swivel-leader-hook in that order, the leader is very long so that when we are busted off (which happens alot more than getting them in) it is just the hook that gets cut off on the structure

twodogs - its a 5.2 metre quintrex dory, and for the price its a great (tho very wet) boat for the bay and rivers

silent - i dont really know about season all I can say is anchoring is crucial down to a few square metres for correct bait placement.

burleygu - I use really heavy sinkers, and it depends where I see the kings on the sounder as to how deep I run the livies, rig is just standard sinker-swivel-leader-hook in that order, hook pike through back if slow current or through nose if running fast

we tried to get video of a strike and hookup but had limited power and memory, watch at the back of the motor in this short clip

    thanks for the feedback guys
hopefully more video reports to come
