Re: What do you fear when Boating ?

Running out of petrol...again...but this time at sea, rather than within paddling distance of a petrol station on the broadwater.

(paddling distance for a mate on a surfboard, that is...)

    Hitting something in the water.
Finding vehicle or trailer damaged/missing on return to ramp.
    Cheers,

    G'day,

Nothing really, except that I will never go offshore unless there is a competent skipper to take over if something happens to me.

    Nothing ever happens to me.

    Regards,

wind over 5 knots, cant handle more than a foot of chop' the thought of sea sickness in the river cuts me deep for sure.

Already came home to a stolen trailer. Wasnt much fun.
I like to do big distances offshore in my little rig. Biggest fear would be hitting a turtle or similar at night while travelling.
Apart from that it would be an accident with my family on board.

the anchor rope breaking while im surfing and the boat ending up on the rocks in honeymoon bay. it came true, but i paddled fast enough to catch it just before the breakers. amazing stuff adrenalin. check your bowsprit for sharp edges, especially on a new boat

that monster shark off Qld coastline, he would swallow my 12ft tinny with no trouble if he's as big as they say. Other then that it would those little rich pricks out there showing off in daddy's boat to his mates and full of piss. seen them all to often!

Re: What do you fear when Boating ?

I worry about falling out of the boat at night cos I fish solo. if Im wearing heavy clothing and theres a current running, will I be able to swim back?

Strangely enough, I dont worry about hitting turtles. I would see at least 2 or 3 every session, yet I dont fear hitting one.

I can still remember a thread from a few years ago about a guy who had a whale entangled in his anchor rope off Southport. It pulled the bow under and kept going. Now thats scary!!!

    Good thread.

Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.

Of course the traditional fear of seagoing types.......that sinking feeling.

Consider that so many boats of the not too distant past have inadequate flotation and would sink like a stone if swamped or holed.... more should be affraid of this.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

Not the fuel tank....it would literally fill the boat.

9l is a full tank of fuel for me
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
