    Redfin on at Copeton Dam

Went over to Copeton Dam on Saturday morning for a fish, just fished of the bank using lures.

Caught some nice redfin on blades, all around 35cm mark, went down well on the bbq.

With the redfin back in large numbers the cod will be putting some weight on.

The Dam rose a couple of feet up the bank in the 24 hours we were there, should make for a good Cod season.

    Cheers

Good to hear some cod food back.. I.. I.. mean redfin , Good for a feed !! and will give the yellars a rest from the catch and eat chaps. As for the water rising being a good cod season I disagree, less water the better IMO.

Probly good for the cod, more area for them to hide in.

When I used to live over there I saw the dam fill up a few times and you would have been surprised at the amount of cod landed, in the right areas. 3 of the local lure makers I knew were pretty clued into them with high water.

I myself prefer lower water levels in dams and higher levels in rivers.

Cannot remember the last time I caught Redfin off the bank in Copeton on blades but they were big in size(up to 2kg) and plentiful. The Redfin themselves would be a good drawcard for me as they are pretty good chewing. And I can recall afew times when I have been pulling up Redfin only to have them eaten by something big on the way up, not hard to guess what that would be.

Good to see a bit of water back in the dam as they will need it for when they pull the plug again.
    Cheers, steve.

    Fair enough Wam Jam,

My past expereinces have found the Cod fishing to be best when the Dam is 65% or higher, but everyone has different expereinces.

Whether we fish the dams high or low we will still fish them the same way!!... and we will still be out there having a crack.. Like has been mentioned the higher water will be an advantage for the specklies !... thats the main thing.

    Thats it!

They should baloon over the summer feeding up on the Redfin and I bet some off the biggest Cod ever caught at Copeton will happen over the next couple of seasons.
