Follow the link that odes gave as a guide. It is my transom rebuild which I have only just completed. It also has photos of parts of odes transom rebuild. If you need to contact anyone for help give us a bell as I have just been through this process. Also odes is extremely knowledgeable on this stuff and he helped me out enormously so dont hesitate to ask him questions.
A couple of things I think you need to consider :-
Because your transom is probably not completely rotten all the way through it is likely you will find it extremely difficult to remove all plywood by chisel. In fact you will struggle to separate the inner sheet of plywood from the inside skin unless is is really bad. Therefore you would be best of cutting the inside skin too and then re glassing. This is what I did. This is also assuming you end up doing it from the outside.
Also glass over the top of where the old capping was. It seems like its a difficult task but it really isnt. Then that way you know water cannot penetrate your new transom from the capping.
You dont need to use marine plywood, you can if you like and have the money but construction grade plywood is fine. You would also need to consider whether you are going to use epoxy or polyester resin. Polyester is a lot cheaper than epoxy but epoxy has some benefits.
It is a long, itchy time consuming process but not as hard as it looks
Have a read of that link..... and post any questions

Re: WHEN will it end :(
Thanks for the replies fellas!!!
My only initial concerns is where to cut given that after the width of the splash well, the transom area tapers in. So im guessing its not the one sheet of ply, or these transoms are moulded in different stages...
@ Svranjic, In your tutorial you have gone through to the sides of the hull but given the design of the Haines Transom, I dont see how I could do that as there are angles and tapers everywhere haha. Hence the question if its worth just replacing the width of the splashwell??
Second question is, what is the difference between polyester and epoxy resin? I see you wished you used polyester??
Thats a great tutorial, I did have a read of that thread a while ago but just finished going right through it then. You make it look very easy hahaha!!
@Odes, I see you know what you are talking about so it is much appreciated to have your offer of help
@CGibbo, mate I dont believe the stringers go right to the transom as from the bilge back, I believe it is a pod like setup. Its by no means a conventional design but I will try and get home in daylight this afternoon and I will be taking a lot more pictures to help with my questions.

Mustang5 ......... If you go ahead and do it yourself could you start a new thread about it as it makes it easier for the next fella. You'd be on a big learning curve going by previous threads on the subject.
Good luck with it..It would've been much more difficult in the pre forum days.

Re: WHEN will it end :(
those signatures had a very different rear end, i think you'll find the transom is only the width of the motor well and there will be a stringer on each side running forwards on either side of your fuel tank with another bulkhead across the rear of the fuel tank. i'd take a bit of care where the motor well drains go through the transom too, they're like a little plastic tube. good luck with it.
