    EVA vs Hypalon?

Pros, cons and anything in between. At this stage I'm leaning toward Hypalon because it comes in gray but I really have no clue. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Re: EVA vs Hypalon?

Hypalon is much heavier than EVA, is way more durable and has a more spongy nicer feel to it. It also harder to shape than EVA and more expensive. I use it on all my offshore builds, say 10kgs and up. Hypalon also has a more open weave and hence less bait and crap sticks to the grips, easier to clean than eva.

I recon the only thing that eva has going for it is that its much lighter and easy to shape, good for lighter spin rods etc where light and touchy is the name of the game. EVA can get hunks etc torn out of it. Just depends what your building as different products suit different purposes

This just my opinion, no doubt others may have diffferent experiences.

    Re: EVA vs Hypalon?

as said above hypalon is a lot heavier than eva. on off shore bait/troll rods that will cop a hard time I like hypalon, easier to clean and doesn't dint as bad when left in a rod holder while trolling.

if you've never used it before give it a try then decide what you prefer.

    Re: EVA vs Hypalon?

Hi Skippy, I am an EVA fan. I put Hypalon grips on my lats offshore rod and didn't like it. I think it is too heavy and I dont like the "feel" as compared to EVA. A lot of others swear by it. Adam G makes a good suggestion.

Some others put hypalon on the rear grip only, for the reasons Adam G states, it comes out of the rod holder easier when trolling etc. Then use an EVA front grip for the weight factor.

You can get coloured EVA from many sources.

    Regards Adam
