Seeing there's been a fair bit if controversy about all round white lights watch this video and pay particular attention to the small rubber ducky.
The all round white light is well obscured by the operator when he stands. It's barely legal if he's sitting at the helm
I told you there's be something wrong with all lights if you look hard enough.

Just having a dig at those who think/preach lights on boats have to be exactly as per described in COLREG's and every other manual known to mankind.

My point was if the boys in blue don't follow the regs to the letter why would anybody else??

Have the lights.
Have them working.
Have them a close as possible to the requirements and know which ones you've supposed to have on you've done well I reckon.

Who really cares if the all round is only 840mm above the red and green instead of 1000mm??
Who really cares if the all round is interrupted by 12 degrees by someone's head instead of the allowable 6 degrees??
Who really cares if the red and green are not exactly in line with the keel line of a boat or above the gunnel??
Who really cares if the red and green are not visible for exactly 2 or 3nm??

As I've always said. I could find something wrong with the lights on any boat if push comes to shove.
Just the fact of simply having lights on all boats working at night would be a great start before the nitty gritty of light placement legalities to be considered.
