Cheap trade tools inverter generator - honda ripoff?

Just spotted these whilst hunting for a good deal on a generator. http://www.tradetoolsdirect.com/Cata...uctCode=G1000I

Anyone seen or heard of these. Pretty cheap.

I had chosen the yamaha generator, but its tempting to try one of these. Only need it for topping up the battery on the yacht, probably connected to a 15amp charger.

Solar panel , reg, and no maintainance and a larger battery is required. Engrave ya boat rego on it so the thieves don't want it.

You've always got the pull starter.

True. Need to get a solar panel to keep the battery topped up when on the hardstand. The more I think about it, i dont reckon I would use that much juice anyway. Boat has a 130ah battery. That should run the waeco for a few days. Only issue is the hydraulic pump for the keel, but I can always lift that manually with the hand pump! Dont think I would spend more than 3-4 days on the boat anyway.

I have one of these and have only tested it for a couple of hours but at the price all is good.

Yeah I was looking at them, put in an offer of 400, then tried upto 440 but the auto offer bot rejected my offers. I was not really that interested to be honest, cause they are a bit big for what I was chasing. I wanted something small, 1kva or smaller so it did not take up to much space.

You really don't want 240v on a small boat- no way to keep it safe long term in my opinion. Buy a 12v genset based on a honda and alternator if it is just running 12v stuff if you want to go down the genset path. .

There is some cheap 2 stroke ones ( lower amps smaller) that are great as because of the noise and fume you won't want to use them for very long. We anchored ours in a dinghy with the battery a distance away !!! They are good for bulk charge but not for staged charging - ie no controller and yu adjust revs to current draw.

Buy a briefcase solar panel and when doing weekends take it onboard to suplement a smaller panel you always have on board or carry a 2nd battery. . Expensive but the flexible panels pay for themselves after someone breaks a solid panel more than once. Easy to set facing sun.

There is possibly a upgrade you can put under the flywheel on your motor if you really wanted more amps as well but only if you are going to motor several hours and it is still not a huge output..

Dont waste your money!!! i bought a Knock off Honda style gensets it looked the part it ran for about 10 min in craped itself. Had all the trouble in the world trying to get a refund. Took it to Hinterland Mowers as they were agents for Honda thinking they might have a new circuit board for it and they told me it looks like a Honda from the outside but nothing on the inside looks the slightest bit like a Honda! Most Expensive boat anchor i ever bought!

    I will second Houseboat

I bought the Engle knock off, I did manage to keep it going for three trips to Fraser but with a world of hurt and work to keep it going. I couldn't believe how cheaply made these things were

I am the tightest of tight asses and would never buy a cheap knock off again for a genny

you would be better off with a second hand Honda 1000

Oi Andy. I think I remember seeing a little 1KV Honda unit at David Evans here in Warwick for around the $660 mark.
If your interested give them a call
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

I would look at the solar option seriously. It would take a couple of hours running a 15A charger to give you what a good panel will produce with no fumes or noise. Our diesel 5kva gennie failed on the last big trip we went on and we had to resort to a 1kva petrol unit. It was a pain in the a@#e.

just an update 12 or so months on....
Just went out to the shed to see if it would start it was covered in dust from the last 6-9mths.
I have not started it or put any fuel in during this time.
I primed it and 2 pull it started pluged the freezer in and all good.

So I would have to say this is great value and I would buy another
