    Fishing in Phuket ?

Im heading to Phuket for a weeks R&R, in 2 weeks. A spur of the moment trip.
Ive read about and heard stories of the local charters there. Some people say dont bother, others say they had a blast, caught lots of fish etc. So Im going to go on at least 2 day trips.

Has anyone tried LB fishing in Phuket ? Was thinking of taking a rod and reel and spending a day or two chucking placcies or lures off rocks etc. Does anyone know of any spots ? I could hire a car or motorbike to get around.
Oh and going solo, so no trouble with spending my time fishing

lol pick the company carefully, i did one a couple years back....bad idea. The gear was super yber uncredibly shit, with a massive rusted hook, onto which old squid was put. They had no other tackle AT ALL on board no spare hooks no line/leader/lures etc. They admitted that it was unlikley to catch a fish where we where as the trwalers rape everything, they dont have to comply with regs.

Oh but lunch was great.... ....shitty sanga's with fig sauce. That is all.

oh but its worth going to one of the little fake lakes and catching some really awesome fish, piranha and crazy stuff like that

Scroll to the bottom of the page. There is a chart that shows what species for what month of the year. I am going next may for 2 weeks, will be doing a charter simply so i can say i fished overseas.

Dont want to put a downer on things dude, but there are no fish. I was over there in March and did a lot of scuba diving. I planned on doing a fishing charter but after the diving I realised it was a waste of time and money. I probably saw 3 table size fish the whole time i was there.

Dived a place called shark point, dived for an hour and didn't even see a reef shark! They've eaten them all! (coral was nice but)

When I asked the scuba instructors about the fishing they said that there has been a lot of Burmese fishermen fishing their waters as well as the Thais.

I would go somewhere like Kuala Rompin in Malaysia if you want a cheap asian fishing holiday, the sails look fantastic. I nearly booked it a few weeks ago, but got talked into diving with whale sharks in the Phillipines instead.

Likewise mate. I have dived there twice. No fish..Coral dead and boring.
Old mate stood on an Urchin which was funny...Watching the Thai dude smash the spines further in his foot was hilarious.

    Yes I am warped...
I CAME INTO THIS WORLD KICKING, SCREAMING AND COVERED IN SOMEONE ELSES BLOOD. I HAVE NO PROBLEM GOING OUT THE SAME WAY.

I did a 'fishing charter'in Koh Samui (crappy old wooden boat and tckle from the 1950's) and same deal. Lunch was cold special fried rice and fruit.
Trawled a HB on STEEL CABLE behind the boat to spot I-dont-know-why-I-bothered. One of the thais got my mate Jase to keep his habd on the cable to check if there were any hits. Twice he krept to the back of the boat and gave the cable a good yank and him and the skipper would piss themselves as Jase was madly hand lining the lure in. Funny buggers.
As mentioned, anything that MOVES is hauled in and whisked away by the trawlers on both sides of the gulf.
My housemate is in the Mentawai Islnds (how ironic, went on a surfing trip and got the biggest waver of his life) he reckons the Coral Trout, Hoo's and GT's there are worth going over just for the fishing. Hopefully have some pics when he's back.
    Cheers,
    Jimbo
