Went for a charter with Gav and a few regulars on SEAPROBE CHARTERS yesterday the weather was good as where the conditions off the goldie . We collected some livies first slimies and yakkas then headed out to the 50s to chase some kingies . First drift we hooked up to a couple of nice kingies about 8-10 kg and then while standing next to gavs dad his reel goes off big time . He was fishing with a torium with 80lb braid and 100lb wind on ,this thing was half empty in seconds so it was all lines up and after this fish as he wasnt stopping in a hurry . After chasing it for a km or 2 we started to get some line on it thinking it might be a big king or amber because of the big thumps coming up the line then the toriums antireverse gave out and it looked like we had a big problem , we eventually got the fish to the boat and it turned out to be a nice thresher which i dont think are that common up here . We took some photos of this truelly magnificent fish and let him go unharmed he swam away strongly . The rest of the day was spent catching some nice mixed bag of reefies trag ,snapper ,a nice parrot an couple of cod and a few other bits and pieces as well as the kingies so we all went home with some nice fish again . It never stops amazing me the different species you find of the coast at different times of the year ,also the water is getting up in temp and is very blue outside ,we had a short troll on the way to one mark just in case but i dont think we are far from some top water action it can only be weeks away now . Another great day with SEAPROBE CHARTERS and i recomend them for a great day and the new boat makes for a more comfortable day ,its a blackwatch 36 it has the ability to travel easily in less than great conditions Thanks for reading ...matt
I have only posted the pics of the thresher as we have all seen kingies and reefies.....
