I'll feel a little queasy. But only 'caus its happened to me. Did you have to push the point out yourself or were you lucky enough for it go exit when it happened?

Theres a few tricks with Dorado. First one is, only use one hook if you are chasing them exclusively- then there is no free swinging hooks.
Second is, if you are gaffing them, have an esky or something ready to go, swing them straight into it, dont let them hit the sides or floor of the boat first, as soon as they feel the boat they go nuts, often shaking themselves off a gaff.
Like jeremey said, bending them into a banana and tying them off does the job. Work out where you are going to jam their head to bend them BEFORE they are in the boat. Corners of the boat work best.
Apart from dirty old sharks I havent yet seen a fish that hates the inside of the boat nearly as much as Dorado. We usually just cut them off or shake the hook out beside the boat and let them go now to save the mess of blood and slime.
Bet I'm not the only one with a lump in his throat reading that about pushing the barb through, Ahhh adrenalin is a wonderful thing and needles are even better
Nothing excitable comes over the side until the love mallet has tapped it on the head- just too unpredictable and even the small stuff can go nuts.
ouch
if it went near the bone be very careful of infection

Ouch , very nasty. Dollies by far the most insane fish in the boat for sure, even the little fellas go balastic. Had a double hookup years ago , some of the first ones i had caught, swung both of em in the boat ... WRONG.. ended up standing on my chair holding the vhf aerial while i waited and watched them destroy the boat. Nearly copped a swinging 10'0 myself.. very lucky that occasion. I try to gaff and dong em well outside the boat now, coupla taps to the head calms them at least.
Yeah the hospital made sure of that. They had me on an IV drip for 45minutes pumping anti biotics into me and I am on a course of pills as well. They also put a back slab cast on my to limit movement. Thought it may have been a bit over prescribed but I guess they are just doing a good job
Bah! Big sook. Have a snort or two. Poke it through, have another snort, shquash the barb, have anuvver schnort, pwullll oit ouryty, drink shommmer more, fall over...
