    Dolphin fish gets revenge

Went out for a solo effort on Monday. After a slow start and a couple of squire I went off to the waverider to look for some dollies. First livey in and got a fish. Got him in the boat where he proceeded to go nuts and got the free swinging snelled hook in the leg. Fish continued going nuts until the 60lb leader snapped.
It was the sweetest tasting fish I have ever eaten!

    Ouch!

Mate of mine on a gameboat showed me a technique a few year ago to keep dollies subdued in the boat. Bend them like a banana and wrap the leader a few times around the tail wrist until they go quiet. Maybe you didn't get a chance to do that before it got you.

How big was the dollie you got?

I was attempting to do that in a half arsed sort of way but the head slipped forward and the rest, as they say, is history. He was only around 95-100cm mark but big emough to teach me a lesson.

Was it a hospital job to get it removed or did you manage to get it out yourself.

Those Japanese safety boots didn't help in this one. When they get that deep I'm a wimp unless it moves easily ( do they ever) and worry about infection. . At least it was a clean hook
