    Good Sailfish Pic

Aimee Brooks snapped this on the weekend from Ymer and she was wanting to get in touch with the owner to send him the pic in high res.

    Re: Good Sailfish Pic

This is how my day went out there.

Darren booked me in for this trip to take his Canadian girlfriend Maxine out on the briny for the first time. We had a late start of 8am to let the morning SWer blow out.

It was still a bit joggly but ok. We made slimey mackerel pretty well and set up a drift. Next drift through the pack we hooked up.

After a good little fight Max had it boatside and Spacko did the honours on the leader.

We fished on a while watching some other fish caught and lost but it wasn't happening so we tried another spot. Eventually the two boats allready there left and we had it to ourselves. A short while later it was Darren who was up.

The rest of the afternoon was filled in feeding Molly the dolphin that is often in amongst the gamefish fleet.

    Another successful charter.

Wow! Those pointy nose critters sure look good on the end of a line - and I note their eye ball contact to the bod behind the rod - I wonder if they have a loooooong memory? I would if you stuck me with a tag!!!! Naarrrh .... that Jaws movie was just a movie eh ..... but ...... mmmmm .....

    Well done, what a team.

Thanks Jeff would it be possible for you to go into the rigs you use. I am having a crack at some Sails this season so any help would be appreciated regarding leader length/strength, crimped or not, swivels, wind-on leaders, etc.
    Thanks

    Re: Good Sailfish Pic

Like all fishing the lighter the better. Jeff is on 80lb wind-ons, 80lb leaders. I am on 80lb wind-ons and whatever leader between say 80 and 130lb. Because you can only have 4.5m of leader under the IGFA rules for 8kg breaking strain lines that most guys are using most people go something like 3m of wind-on and 1m of leader say. On charter I am using 15kg so I am probably running 5-6m wind-ons. I tried snelling my circle hooks on last year and had a bad run so have gone back to free swinging crimped on hooks. I think Jeff uses crimped but fixed hooks. Swivels have to be ball bearing but any good brand is fine. Just keep the profile small. I rubber band bridle my baits on but Jeff uses a small dacron bridle.

I nearly sent you a PM the last time you went out with Smithy but read your post a bit late.

Thanks also Smithy for the info, greatly appreciated
