    Hinze Dam Access times

The old eastern arm ramp and the western arm ramps are open but you can now only fish 6am to 6 pm. This cuts out the prime dawn and dusk periods.

The word is a group of fools smashed up the facilities at the new ramp at night recently so in response the restricted hours were implemented, Now the rest of us honest law abiding anglers have been closed out due to their destructive stupidity.

A call to the Gold coast city council or the Hinze dam alliance by a lot concerned anglers may help in getting this changed to dawn to dusk or special times for summer and winter.

    Cheers

Good idea Kingie, will do. Its a real shame about the vandalism out there. Originally the new ramp was supposed to be open on June 17th but the vandals buggered that up as well with their repeated attacks on the gates and new facilities.

Typical of a minor few ruining it for the rest of us !! There is always a thing called karma that will catch up with them one day !!
Up here at Lake MacDonald Seqwater have just put signs up near the boatramps and BBQs saying all Seqwater areas are open from 6am to 6 pm except by permit.
So it looks like the lake is only fished on between those hours although at the moment there is nothing to stoop people fishing earlier than those times ( NO gates or bollards yeat ! )

    Re: Hinze Dam Access times

6am to 6pm is the standard for all SEQ water controlled dams. The signs used to say dawn to dusk, or maybe no boating in darkness hours.
Kingie are the signs at Hinze at the gates? They had new ones down at the ramp itself at Eastern arm a few weeks ago but had to remove them because of other incorrect info on them.
I didnt see any signs at the ramp on sunday when I was there but didnt read the one at the gate.
Funny enough at Haymons at Wivenhoe the sign also said that if you were out after dark you would be charged an overnight camping fee. I do not know if that has been changed.

    Hi Rayken,

I was there Sunday afternoon till dusk and the sign is just inside the gate on the left. It's a real estate type of sign with a timber stake, I think it's temporary until the new Eastern ramp opens.

No mention of fine's or if the gate's will be locked at 6pm.

    Cheers

You can as far as I know access the ramp at the back of the dam for a pre-dawn or early evening session. Or are they going to close that one at those times too?

When the new western arm ramp is eventually opened the old ramp is going to be closed all the time permanently mate.

That will be a pity, as I can't see any reason for closing it as there is nothing really to vandalize or maintain, so what would be the point? It is a great place to launch mid to late summer when the Bass move up the back of the dam.

    Re: Hinze Dam Access times

I think the 6am-6pm times are bulls**t. Takes away the best fishing times in summer. Why do that? Why not dawn till dusk? They should just put a few well placed speed humps down there to stop the hoons doing burnouts. Sick of young pricks ruining good fishing for the good people.

    Re: Hinze Dam Access times

Unfortunately I think it's more to do with vandalism of the facilities than hoons. Which is why it makes no sense to close the one at the back of the dam as there are no facilities there. As well as just putting up a chain across a gate won't stop the vandalism they will just park out side and walk in. So I think there is more to it than that. I would venture that they just don't want anyone on the dam between 6pm and 6am so they don't have to police it. Or other than that a reason only known to the powers to be.
A solution may be that If you own a canoe or kayak you may still be able to access the dam by carrying it down to the water, I'm not saying do anything illegal, all they seem to be doing at this point is denying vehicle access to the water. Are they actually saying that the dam is closed to access by people between those hours or just locking a chain across a gate to prevent vehicle access?
Maybe someone should contact the Australian Bass association to see if they could go to bat for us, about more sensible times.

Thumbs down Re: Hinze Dam Access times

Went down to Hinze yesterday to test out my new sounder, Only to find that "ALL"
( According to the security guard at the Dam)but the western ramp at the back of the dam are closed again. I can't vouch for the eastern side, but the western one about 6km from the wall is definitely closed. As for my sounder, it works fine.
