I use an E7 and a mate uses the E5 chasing real barra (saltwater, WILD fish) and both perfrom great. The e7 has a slightly faster retrieve rate which cranks about 3 extra inches per turn of the handle, so not a great deal of difference.

I would say overall the e5 would be slightly better because of the slower retrieve rate and you having to work lures real slow for barra. But not a lot in it and both reels would be fine. If I were you, I'd go with the cheapest of the 2, if there is any price difference that is.

    Hey

I have the curado 200E5 and recommend it highly for any form of barra fishing. The E5 will retrieve 53cm of line vs the E7 of 76cm of line with each turn (according to the shimano website). Very easy casting right from light weights to heavy barra lures, good drag standard and smooth gearing even after a number of fish.

I have an E7 and find it great for Barra. I like the higher gear ratio as it picks up slack line quickly. Easy to slow down your retrieve if you need to. Will cast lures from 7g up with no dramas in all types of conditions because of the light spool.

Recently, I also bought its Japanese little brother, the Scorpion XT1000. Has all ARB bearings and is a casting machine. Weighs just 190g, but has a 4.5 Kg drag capacity with no Mg in the frame. Handled loads of Barra, Jacks, Threadies and Queenies on a recent trip. My favourite reel. It is sold here as the Curado E50, but doesn't have all ARB bearings (bummer).
