try knp marine down the goldcoast,he normally stocks everything from 20hp to 300hp lateish model outboards

I have decided to pension the old 150hp Johnson off and am in the market for a newer 2nd hand motor.
Thinking early 2000's and 2 stroke carby. Budget does not extend to anything fancier.
Any ideas where is a good place to look?

Hey Fishhunter, just curious why the change over? Has the old Jonno bitten the dust or just after something newer?
I f it is still running well, I know those old Jonno and Rude 2 strokes keep going if you cop a good one, then why risk getting a 2nd hand one? I realise the budget restricts you to 2nd hand but if it were me and IF the current motor is still in good order I would stick with it rather than risk buying someone elses problems.
It may be that your current motor is stuffed and if thats the case then disregard this post entirely.
Cons
1. its 30 years old
2. The tilt trim hydraulics have issues
3. The exhaust housing has corroded through
4. The cold start is horrendous despite new plugs and carb kits
5. The starter just karked it
Pros
Compression is 100 psi on all 6 and it runs well once you get it to start.
I would rather sink 4 or 5k into a newer lower hour motor than pump 1 or 1.5k into a 30 year old hand grenade
PM sent.
