Gents,
I am looking at purchasing a Side Scanner Fish Finder with GPS capabilities and am torn between the Humminbird and Lowrance. Any thoughts?

Until Lowrance see some sense and get rid of the geofencing you could hardly recommend them. If you going to buy here and get ripped like we do with most electronics then it probably doesn't matter.
And Humminbirds should come standard with a demister.

I dearly wanted the Lowrance & was saving to get one from Grand Marlin but in the end the bills kept coming & with the dollar the way it is I ended up getting a Humminbird with the Australia wide Navionics Gold card & 3 years warranty from the US.
Saved a lot of $$$'s. Can't wait to get out for the 1st trip with it & test it out.
A-well-a don't you know about the bird?
Well, everybody knows that the bird is the word!
A-well-a bird, bird, b-bird's the word
I said-a bird, bird, b-bird's the word!
just purchased a 798 c si from US , and took it out last weekend, never used one before so I've got no comparison, but worked great, didn't get a navionics card for it, just use the built in base map, no contours in the lakes and rivers I fish anyway
