    From Smithy:
"Also wind your plastic up fast at the end of a cast and you are in with a good chance on kingies, ajs and cobia etc".

AGREED - the summary in deeper water is that you get the snaps/pearlies etc on the drop and the AJ's KF's on the draw back.

Ripping it up and slow release back is the term used and on braid you will feel the difference, on mono perhaps not.

Also - 2oz is a lot of weight for SP's, even in 80m of water as you want the SP to slowly drift down/ 'drop' through the fish even if it means you have 120-180m of line out. Simple maths will tell you that a 45degree angle out in 80m of water you need around 115m of line out and at a 30 degree angle around 180m of line out. The average drop rate in still water on a 1oz lead/gulp combo is around .8m to .9m per second so even with zero current it will take you 2 minutes to get near the bottom. Don't panic - just let it happen!

Obviously cast up drift as far as possible to minimise the line out and also ensure you position your boat on the GPS to allow a 2 minute drift back to spot x thereby ensuring your SP is in the fish zone at the right time. Sorry if this is too obvious but if your bottom fishing friends with bait are using heavy sinkers straight up and down, they may be catching on the mark while your SP is 120m away or more.

You need to know these figures and the effect of the current if you want to fish SP's deep.
    Cheers
    Plato
