Thread: US i-Pilot Now work here??

Re: US i-Pilot Now work here??

Geez Rob, hope you get it sorted...I can imagine how frustrated you are.

I have decided not to purchase the add-on and wait until another 12months when some more bugs ironed out.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on their personal experience.

As noted above, I have received excellent service from BLA Brisbane re: my Terrova when it had issues - so I am happy to hear they are keeping up their good reputation.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: US i-Pilot Now work here??

    G'Day Crew,

I was able to visit the BLA Tech guys in QLD. Uninstalled the problem Oz unit, boxed it back up and hired a car from Coolangatta (in Coolangatta for work, live in Sydney).

Described the problems to the technicians, they took it away and 15 minutes later they returned with a brand new boxed unit.

The new unit is also a revision C. Interesting to note that the new unit had a later serial number, but it has a red dot on the box and serial sticker on the unit, the dot is very small.

Installed the new unit late yesterday. Even with very thick cloud and light rain the new unit constantly has FULL satellite reception, it has never dropped below full reception.

Obviously the older Oz unit was simply faulty.

The US unit also maintains full reception, it is a Revision C, earlier serial number, no red dot.................

I asked about revision D units and queried of any updates or changes. It was explained to me that it was simply production runs that changed the Revision letter.

I tried spot lock, as part of my test, but the unit just went around in circles, twisting the cable around the shaft each time, hopefully not another fault.

As yet I have not tested it on the water.

    Regards,

    Rob

P.S. If anyone wants to buy the US revision C unit for RIPtide SP you can have it for $350, less than I paid to get it from the states and half of what you can get the OZ version for!!!

    Hi All

    Just tested my unit.

Connected the power to the motor, 3 beeps from the motor head, turned on the hand controller, 3 secs later the hand controller turned off.

Disconnected the motor power, replaced the controller batteries, plugged the motor back in, and the motor turns on its own accord to wrap the coil around the shaft. The hand controller keeps turning off after 3 secs.

Tried "resetting" everything by pulling connections etc apart but still no go.

PLAN C: I'll contact Minnkota, I don't think BLA will help because I bought direct from USA.

    Regards
    Steve

Between my last post and this, J & H Products in the States are going to send me an exchange unit with the red dot.

They had only just been told about the "red dot" and couldn't remember the version sent.

Gotta love modern technology (email that is!!!).

My final post on this subject will be when all is good

    Regards

    G'Day Stressless,

You cannot go wrong with J and H products. When I received mine it too did not have a red dot, so I emailed him and asked. As you said he was not aware of any red dot and was making further enquiries. He said if I was concerned, I could send it back.

As I had holidays (very rare) and not wanting to be dissapointed, I purchased an OZ unit at double the cost of the US unit.

As you can see the Oz unit was faulty. I decided to "dry" install the US version. Full satellite coverage. There is no difference in Oz/US versions. Some have the red dot, most do not, why? only Minn Kota knows!

My replacement Oz version is also a revision C, but it has a red dot. Installed it and full satellite coverage. But when dry testing the spot lock function in the driveway, it too, just spins the head, wrapping the cable around the shaft! The remote does not turn off, though. When I tried testing the old unit in the driveway with spotlock it worked by making small adjustments.............

For you that are yet to install here is a link to a youtube video that Minn Kota have made showing the install. Other models are also listed.

Good luck with it all, let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Rob

Re: US i-Pilot Now work here??

I got a unit from the states and when installed it was faulty. It kept turning the power head in one direction after I tried the spot lock button. It appeared all ok untill i hit the spot lock. Contacted the seller and tried taking battery out of remote with no difference.
Looks like its a common fault with the earlier models a a friend had the same problem with his Austrailian purchased one.
Posted the unit back to the states and after a month new unit arrived. The new one has a red dot and works perfectly.
Cost me $29 to send it to the states and $61 for the return postage

    Hi All

SUCCESS. All is working as it should.

I can't thank the supplier, J & H Products in the USA, any more for the effort they put into getting the issue sorted with MinnKota. I'm still $ 250 heavier in the wallet.

Now I can't wait to get back to Karumba to spot lock the snags where I lost valuable casting time using the co-pilot last trip (only hope they haven't been washed away!!!)
