    Northern bay cobes

Found some time tuesday after lunch to head solo offshore and planned to go to caloundra wide for a fish on dusk.
Went lookin for some livies at the usual spots and was greeted by 4 cobia swimming up to the back of the boat.
Tried soft plastics and chrome slugs but managed only a couple of followers but no hook ups.
Picked down and burlied for one smash up and one hook up.
Ended up having to chase it across the bay but managed to land it after 25 minutes.
Went back to retrieve the anchor and decided to have another crack on the drift for another hook up and a 15 minute fight for number two.
Arms now a bit longer the trek out to wide cal postponed and headed home for a big filleting session.
The smaller one went 18kg and the big one estimated at around 40kg.

That is one beast of a cobe. I don't think I have ever seen a thicker fatter one. Is that a Vsea there with the 70 on the back?

Yeah Jeremy, saved the pennies up and went for the 70 4 stroke and paying dividends already at about 3km/ltr and plenty of go.
Nice to have fish in the freezer again. Kept the small one for us and give the big one to family and friends.
    Great eating too!!

Very impressive landing both by yourself Scoota, they roll like a croc and really a handful once in the boat, especially that size. How did you manage that?

    Well done!

    Geez,
That's one good Cobe Scoota, well done.
I reckon you're nuts for going back a second time after that monster first fish. Your arms must have been just about buggered after that one.
    I'm feeling your pain.
