As far as not getting the whole ethanol thing.......there are plenty of well informed people who think about it and still don't get it.....it even gets worse.....the government is pushing grain as a source of ethanol, not sugarcane or wood waste......grain which is already at full demand for cattle feed and is not the most efficient source of ethanol. the whole 10% ethanol thing, in the view of many is a big negative for the envoronment the way the government is trying to push it.
If they were sourcing ethanol from undersubscribed sources such as sugarcane or from waste products like wood waste, grain hulls, or various mill waste.....it may be a different thing.
But this is typical of most government environmemtal issues, they dont do what is best, they do what they can best sell to the voting suckers.
as far as the presence of ethanol in fuel......as far as I know all BP service stations have only E10 as the standard fuel...this issue has been well a truly canvased on this forum...and yes very shotly there will be only E10 as standard fuel.
Concerning toluine....if this concerns you..... cover your ears and shut your eyes because the stuff appears in all sorts of stuff, including most petrol and some paints.............the fuel companies would rather not use the stuff because it is very expensive.
as far as fuel doctoring or contamination.......well that is hardly an issue you can do much about except to buy from a reputable outlet.
If you have documented proof of recent ethanol content in other than labeled E10 standard unleaded....please cough up....... but otherwise it is nothing more than scuttebut and bovine excretia.
As far as ethanol in south america.......they were forced into using it because of oil embargo and have done so for decades, they have pumps that allow you to use whatever mix of ethanol you like ( like the old BP supermic pump)...BUT...they have cars that are specilay adapted to use ethanol fuel.......I saw a doco a while back where they had a relativly normal hatch back type car... but the engine and fuel injection system was capable of running the car on anything from 100% petrol to 100% ethanol...... but they a very large worldwide source of sugar from which they also make ethanol.
