Off to Woodgate this weekend for a week. I am taking my 90 year old Dad so we will be fishing the Burrum mainly. Just bait for whiting/bream/lizards I expect. Anyone know if its fishing ok at the moment ? Also is it an easy river to navigate or are there lots of banks/bars ?? And - does it have some decent yabbie banks ?
Plenty of decent yabby banks straight across from the Walkers Point ramp, which is probably where you'll launch from.
Plenty of banks in the lower section, but pretty obvious if you go for an explore at low tide. Would be worth poking out to the dropoff just past the end of the leads into the river - good school macks around there at the moment I've heard.
Lots of very shallow sections at low tide - mostly mud banks but go easy just the same. The tides really rip during the run so getting your boat out can be a bit difficult mid tide. There are heaps of yabby banks but I found that the yabbies are very tiny - couldn't find a single bank with any decent size yabbies. Plenty of live bait though if you've got a cast net.

Yeah - the map is worth getting. I got a laminated one at the bait shop. Can't remember what it cost but it wasn't much and was very handy.
