Thread: Wish List. your thoughts.

    Exclamation Wish List. your thoughts.

    HI guys and gals.

Leaving political issues and sides apart, I need to hear from you about a wish list.

What I mean is a list of items or events you would like to see happen in the near future OR asap in regard to our fishery.

To give you an idea of where I am going with this here's a couple I have.

    1. VMR and Coast Guard to be merged.

    2. The Recreation Use Fee ( Qld boat rego part ) be increased.

    3. Artificial reefs to be in place BEFORE any closed areas / zones.

    4. Estuaries and Creeks protected from trawling / netting

    5. All marine notifications / zones etc issued by the government be in WGS84 datum.

    6. The Fishwatch Hotline be manned 24/7

This thread is not to debate the merits or lack thereof of any suggestions, simply post up your ideas. Along with your idea, some sort of justification or process needed to impliment your ideas would be good.

I look forward to ALL ideas....

    Regards

How about using REAL data to make decisions...
Townsville uni has over 25 years of DATA that is real. And a scientist that has been a part of that material gathering for those 25 years.
Not some Yank with nothing real or that guesses at data with a few divers and a clicker counter.

How about some real policing by Fisheries to deter crabbing share-farmers?

And some Fisheries presence every now and then on Moreton Is and Nth Stradbroke Is. I've watched amateurs swimming 200ft nets around schools of fish.

    1. vmr and coast guard merge to form an authority similar to a water police "reserve" and recieve complete government funding. instead of coast guard or vmr membership being optional we pay a surcharge on our boat rego to fund this new combined organisation (user pays) instead of the poor buggers having to wave a paint tin under our nose at traffic lights to get funding when they could be out manning the radios.

    2. vmr/coast guard, fisheries inspectors and marine parks rangers to have similar powers for enforcing marine and boating offences. ie. coast guard or a ranger can issue on the spot fines for marine infringements like incorrect safety gear, out of date flares etc.

    4. real science behind marine environmental decisions, not just political science (bear in mind that we may not always agree with the "real" decisions)

Cars towing boats should be able to use the T2, T3 and bus lanes.

Yet another for reducing netting. Adding cleaning facilities at boat ramps along with a few etiquette/educational signs wouldn't go astray.

Stronger representative body for recs including tackle and relevent boating sectors and any others (media, caravan parks etc) that make a $ from rec fishing. Something with some real cohesion, teeth and committment.

Buy-back of beach-haul licenses at an equitable, agreed-to price.

    Review of the tuna-bait fishery.

Drop the 20 fish bag limits back to 10 for bream, luderick, whiting and tailor.
Increase the bag limit of 5 for Australian Salmon to 20..........save buying cat food!

    Cheers!
