    No Crabs & Fish Id

Went for a crabbing session to Scotts Point. Late start after dropping the kids at school but weather was near perfect so was very hopeful. Dropped my four pots and had a fish while I waited. Managed a chopper first cast which was released, then nothing. Being bored I decided to tie my camera (waterproof) to the end of a rope and drop it over the side in video mode to see what I could see. Imagine my surprise when I got home and saw the fish (ID if you can - my guess is a chopper) sitting right under the hull.

Collected the pots for nothing except a couple of wobbies. No undersized or females which surprised me. Used whiting frames for bait so either the crabs haven't turned up yet or I need to go back to mullet.

    Still had a nice day,

    Dave

PS. If you use Dohles Rocks ramp, there is something sticking up just out from the right hand lane so be careful - looks like someone has thrown in a chair.

I think it might be a mullet but i'm not 100% sure from the photo.

Reminds me of a trip once, where we sat back near perry's hole.
There was a absolute mob of boats really close together but not catching anything that we could see., anyway we silently kept pulling up good sized whiting from straight underneath them!

Always seeing wobbys in pots that are left down for a few hours,

I only ever use mullet for bait, find that whiting frames unless fresh do not have enough blood, smell etc.

Thanks for that, I've used winter whiting before successfully but now I think about it they have been whole fresh ones that I have cut up.

    .....

    The "mullets" have it.

    dnej,

I think Wobbegongs will eat anything including crabs. I'm always getting them in crab pots - they are a pain in the butt. Biggest one was about four feet, no idea how it got in there as it wrapped completely around. Had three keeper crabs as well and every time I'd grab a crab it would grab the wobby and all hell would break loose.

    .....

    Thanks for all the answers,

    Dave
