    Raymarine S1000 Autopilot Installation Help

I am thinking of fitting a s1000 autopilot , after reading the installation guide it gives no reference to where the course computer has to be placed .
Would it be okay to fit it in the cabin and mount the remote near the helm ?
Its a plate boat and the cabin door is closed wilst under way .

    Dave,

Its best that the course computor is mounted on a verticle bulkhead (wall) as close to the pump as possible. The key is to follow the instalation guide nas best you can.

Keep the course computor at least 500mm from a compass

Also mount the pump as close to the helm as possible

    Hi Dave,
Having been involved with two recent Garmin AP instals, all I can say (in addition to Garry who has provided great advice) is to use 90 or 45 deg fittings off your T pieces to hook into your pump or from the pump itself if possible.
You do not want great loops of hyd hose in behind your dash area especially if you have a bunch of 12V wiring there already.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

Just had a look behind the dash, looks like the pump will mount just below the helm pump with a few 90 degree elbows to keep the pipes straight .
As for the course computer it will mount just below on the bulk head .
Thanks Garry & Peter for your time and handy hints .

Dave - where are you buying from? Dollar looks good atm and I have been thinking of submitting a capex to the minister for finances for one as well. Can you land them for under 1K AUD?

    Greg
Did you exchange some brownie points for cash , i will be ordering mine next week . Let me know how you go with the wiring from the gps to the a/pilot , seems like they all work different depending on what gps you connect it to .
I am guessing yours should be the same as garrys and mine should be the same.
