Live Bait Tank - Base Colour

I recently heard that painting the base of a live bait tank black (or adding black rubber mat etc.) can help keep the bait longer as it prevents the bait becoming disorientated?
My initial thought is that when the lids closed it's going to be dark anyway...or is it...i've never been inside one but I'm sure the opaque one's would let a fair amount of light in. Anybody have any theories on this??

    Cheers

I used to catch reef fish for my marine tank and we always used black plastic drums to minimise shock to the fish, so I imagine it would help

I already have enough trouble catching the little prix...i'm not here for their benefit and to provide luxury accommodation.
I give them a nice home, some mates to discuss fishy stuff with, i lavish them with expensive gifts, plenty of nice fresh air, and even rebuild their house more often than most dream about.
A 5kg snapper never gets this kind of loving....just murdered fast and forgotten till home. Yet a little slimey or a yakka gets our full attention for hours.
They're spoilt brats and i'm sick of pandering to their wants and desires.
No more i reckon...i say let em work hard then die !!
