    Tin Can-Rainbow Area

Am going up to Rainbow for 4 days on 13th Oct. Will be using the Carlo ramp with 3 boats & 6 blokes. None of us have fished this area (inside Wide Bay bar) but have been told there are reef fish to be caught in the area.
Any info on any species would be appreciated.

    Tin Can/Rainbow Area Info

    Hi All
Am going to Rainbow on 13th Oct for 4 days with 3 boats & 6 blokes. None of us have fished this area (inside Wide Bay bar & Fraser) & any advice would be appreciated.
I vaguely remember someone a long time ago telling me there are places inside that have reef fish. Is this dinkum?

Teebar Ledge, Searys Ledge, Bluff Reef, Tinnanbar Reef, Figtree Creek all have reef fish at times, as well as the deep holes between Inskip and Fraser. Just need to watch wind and tide. I prefer to fish Bluff Reef either side of the change of the tide, same with the deep holes, prefer quarter moons for less run.

Thanks Mate. I learnt quickly ( Coochin Ck) to always have seperate stashs of repellant in both vehicles, the tinnie & tackle bag.

There is a green beacon pretty much in the middle of Tin Can Bay which is called Big Mick try there - last time I went camping at Inskip took the boat and got into some nice school mackeral LOTS OF FUN and great on the chew... try an unweighted pilly and cast with 10-15 metres of the beacon. The only thing last time there was the worlds largest toad fish there

jelifish - where do I find the location of these reefs - often camp at inskip point and take the boat have only had any real luck around the beacons there. Thinking of going back up at the end of the month and any help would be great... Don't expect to get your secret spots but a general idea would be great

Do you have a GPS? Searys Ledge and Teebar Ledge are easy to find. Teebar is found opposite Teebar Creek, use the yellow special mark as a guide. It is a cooffee rock ledge that runs for about a kilometre but be careful at low tide. Bluff Reef is north of the green marker at Big Mick about 3-4km. It lies between the entrance of Kauri Creek and a sand Bluff on Fraser island. You will often see boats anchored out in the middle there. Depth ranges from 50 to 20 feet with lots of pinnacles. Hope this helps
