Had probably my best fishing experience to date at the mouth of the Brisbane river yesterday. We launched from whyte island just after 1pm with the goal to fish the rock wall out front with some plastics. On the way out, just after the end of the wharf we noticed a flock of birds dive bombing about a quater of the way out along the rockwall. Headed over to check it out and the water was just boiling. Fish splashing everywhere!
First cast my brother hooked onto a 40cm tailor with a little 3 inch squidgey riggler. I was using a little hard bodied bream lure and managed to catch a damn bird that decided to swoop down and grab it . After sucessfully releasing the bird I was straight into the action as well. I have never seen so many fish and birds going nuts in my life!
Changed to a little blue and silver metal slug after a while and was catching a fish a cast till i got bitten off after about my 15th tailor. This crazy scene lasted for 5 hours with us and a few other boats chasing the tailor around. (As well as a few idiots who decided it would be a good idea to motor full speed into the middle of the action)
At the end of the day we probably caught about 40 tailor - took 4 40cm models home for dinner tonight, and lost 2 good lures and a pack of SP's to bite marks. Was without a doubt the most exciting time i have ever had fishing and most rewarding to me was that all fish were caught on lures - Its seems only a couple of months ago i couldnt even catch a cold with the plastics/hardbodies and now probably the last 10 trips I have always brought home a feed from the plastic.
Another great part is that 2 months ago my brother would turn his nose up at me when i would use lures instead of the stinky stuff but i have slowly been converting him and after yesterdays session he is well entruly ready to throw the bait away
