2011 Agnes Water / 1770 M & G dates etc.

I have emailed my Australian Underwater Federation ( Spearingfishing ) contact.

I should have a response in the next couple of days.

How will it affect us ?

Probably have no effect.

Couple of things they do...

1. float around on the surface up Bustad Head way spearing Spanish Macks

2. Hit Fitzroy Lagoon area.... shallows and spear trout, mainly

3. They may also chase Crays.

It is in known that a certain ( specific ) group of spearos from NSW will fill a freezer of Trout fillets knowingly breaking our law. These guys come up in early to mid October each year.

Spearos are subject to the same rules as we are in regard to size and in possession bag limits.

I posted up info on about 6th October last year, telling people to get in for their Mullet ... when it is in season.

having said that. I will take all I have up.( around 50kgs ) Meaning I should have a few kgs to offload to those desperate souls looking for a great Red bait

There was a group of spearos that were up at bustard last year. They kept moving around when we were hooking up. If that moved onto our troll line one more time, we would have dumped the blood in the kill bin up current of them to give them the hint. They didn't so all good.

Those guys had the house next to ours 2 years ago.

They were harvesting an obscene amount of trout, they came very well prepared and each night they had a production line set up with guys at one end cleaning and filleting while the guys at the other end were cryovacing and packing the fillets in their freezers.

Those guys were well out on the reefs doing long day trips.

There was also a comp up there a couple of months ago that went well but on by Curtis Coast Spearfishing Club – limit of three fish per diver of different species.

Were still going ahead with the comp and all is looking very good so far. Currently we have over $1500 dollars worth of prizes and over 40 competitors and we are expecting this to rise even further.

We are still welcoming all that are keen to compete however we have amended the program slightly.

on the hill at Agnes for an extra bod. I am in the US ATM so this is a short post.

But in 34 days time I wil be heading 2050km's into the southwest gulf to fish king ash bay/mcarthur river/sir edward pellew islands and everything in between . There are quite a few that will not over-night on Saturday night, even if the weather is very good.

over the past 3 or 4 1770 M and G's, each year you have spent big $$$ on the old girl. Now i'm not exact on this but did a rough guesstimate, i figure you spent approx. $451,386.18 on repairs
I think thats great for keeping QLD jobs and keeping vintage boats on the water...but you could have bought any one of these

I heard that there was a national spear fishing comp running out of 1770 the week before we all head up. Anybody know if this is true, and what effect it will have on us...
