    Fixings in boat

Hi Guys a simple question for the experts.

I am picking up a new tinnie on the weekend and want to fix a few bits and pieces light nav lights, sounder bracket, lights, rod holders etc.

What is the best fixing for these appliances from both a securing process as well as nil affect on the al boat??? Alumin riverts??? Stainless riverts???? Screws???? Stick adhesive (sikaflex) or what????

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Cheers
    Pete

Duralac should be your friend. Apply to both surfaces and dip the screws in it. Stainless screws should be best for removable stuff. I don't know about rivetts but because of the possible steel core.

Personally not a fan of SS on tinnies, so I try to avoid it as much as possible.
I use sealed ali rivets with ali stems. Not the easiest to find, but a store such as Blackwoods or the like will have them. I combine with sikaflex or the Aussie-made
Bostik product, plenty strong enough. I'm looking at fixing a sliding transducer bracket myself shortly, and will be using only Bostik as I dont want to drill the hull. If you've tried removing things stuck to ali with sika/bostik, you'll know it is pretty darn strong. As long as you have a large enough surface area to work with, that is.
    Cheers.

Really depends on what it is, on mine the rod holders are mounted in the aluminium seats and a riveted on with aluminium rivets(alu stems), the nav lights have a stainless bolt that I drilled holes for and filled it with sikaflex.

My sounder head unit mount is secured to the aluminium using stainless screws with sikaflex.

Hope that helps a bit. What boat did you get? Exciting weekend ahead.

Thanks guys for the quick reponse and tips.

I'll have a crack and combine adhesive for external structure fixings and ali rivetts and stems for fixings to seats etc.

Wookie just a stacer 3.6. open run about. Have a new 15 Mariner to stick on back and more to the point can throw up on top of jayco boat rack on the hawk camper when travelling which will be a lot more frequent come the end of this year. Sorry kids.....

Thanks guys once again. Much appreciated.

    Cheers

Get a tub of lanolin grease and dip all your screws bolts in it before you screw or bolt through the boat. Will never give you a problem,if you use duralac don't get it on your skin, gets into your pores, cancer causing and if it sits there it'll only go hard and it is not cheap.Jim ps And run all earth wires back to your battery a stray current is what will kill your boat.

You might also want to look at using Nylon bolts for mounting stuff

Thanks again to the others that gave advice.
