Well done. Good to see that the government department were willing to stop drinking coffee and attend to the matter. Both you and the Australia zoo staff need to be commended for your attitude.

Yeah mate, I hoped the poor response from certain party's might show through without downright bagging them. Perhaps I just didn't get on to the right people. That said, between Telstra and Marine Parks it took 1 1/2 hours to get anywhere. Telstra said that there was no number on their system for Qld marine parks and patched me through to National Parks. It took a confusing while to explain where I was to them before realizing it was Victoria National Parks. More phone calls got me a Qld Marine Parks message with keyboard options. Press 3 for injured marine life or entanglements sounded positive. The person that responded to that just didn't get it even though I explained the situation and position clearly. I think he thought I had a sick turtle in a tank and ended patching me through to a wildlife carer message telling me not to handle sick bats! Several calls later I tried the same number, pressed 3 and got somebody else. He said that he didn't have a switchboard to put me through to anyone but would ring a ranger and said that I would receive a phone call back sometime during business hours that day. Drifted around for ages and rang back to try my luck and, I think, spoke to a 3rd person. Explained the situation again and got some action with a marine ranger from Manly ringing me back in short time. He said it would take at least 2 1/2 hours to respond and get there from Manly. He told me that they are tough buggers, tow it to shore and cut the rope off and let it go. To his credit he did say, after I explained the flipper damage, that he would ring Australia Zoo and give them my number. Less than a minute later Kate from the zoo rang, got my exact position, said whatever you do don't cut the rope off and let it go, we're on our way and got there very quickly from Beerwah.
Lesson learnt, if should anybody be in the same position, ring the zoo directly.
Good on you Dezza
Another phone number to keep handy on board the boat is your local VMR or Coast Guard. They generally will have the local P&W phone number.
I know QF3 has taken many a turtle distress call and then made contact with the zoo or with Manly. Unfortunately this is not the first and will not be the last.
Jot these numbers down:

I had the same problem last winter after informing them of a tangled turtle at scotts point and giving them a gps mark for the animal as I couldn`t get near him as he dived every time I got close , then the parks and wildlife crew told me that they don`t have a boat in the area and would not be attending but if i was to be out there again to try and untangle it myself.
G'day Peter
They rang me today. Amputation was carried out successfully and Carol (named after the wife of an onlooker) is doing fine. She'll stay at the zoo for up to 2 months and then be released with a tracking device attached. The web page you provided a link for will contain the tracking data.
