    Need help with blank selection

    Hi All,

I'm having trouble selecting a blank for my next build, bit different to my normal style of fishing so I need help again.

The rod is to be 15kg 7' to 7'6" and will used for reefies up around Harvey Bay and throwing the odd slug. It will be matched to a 6500 Baitrunner initially but I want to make something quite special. I have decided to go with Hypalon grips and alloy seat (prob Alps Tri) to give the bottom half some colour and am in two minds whether to try the fuji K guides.

I really don't know where to start for the blank though. I've built a nice rod on a Calstar Grafighter 600M so maybe thinking of a 7' 700ML or 700M blank.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Mate you should check my post about my new rod the Samurai NV8. I'm so impressed I'm goign to get the Samurai NV9 which is 7 foot and the weight you are after. I'll be most likely goign the ALPS VX guides with Gold frame and Black ring.

That link is to the Alps VX guides. I went the polished Stainless frame with gold ring on the current one and it's awesome. The frame profile means little chance of issues with casting distance so you can use these safe in the knowledge they'll perform well.

I've read your post about the NV8 Daintreeboy and it looked like a nice build. To be honest I hadn't thought of a NV9, might put it on my short list.

Re: Need help with blank selection

i have built a couple of calstars for a customer btween the 7' and 8' range they came up really nice and with them they should balance the 6500 baitrunner nicely. The hard part is that now there are so many blanks to choose from. Take your time and try to put as many in to your hands to see which you think will suit you to a tee.

Hi Adam, I have at home both a 15KG United Composites Blank (Nearly Built) and also a CTS in 15Kg (Built) both 7 foot. One has hypalon grips (i now dislike them) and the other EVA. I also have rods built with Alps traingle and Amtac reel seats to comapre the looks. You are more than welcome to come and have a look / play with either of those rods. This weekend is no good though as I'm getting married. Any other time is ok. regards Adam
