2010 Wivenhoe Kayak & Canoe Convention

Headed off on Friday morning looking forward to the 3rd running of this annual event. Rained most of the way fro mhome until almost to Esk..then it cleared a bit. On arrival at Logans Inlet the rain stayed away long enough to get the camp set up. A bit of wind got rid of the rain.
Friday night's dinner was a barbie run by KFDU...well done again..a few drinks then bed ready for an early start the next morning.

Early rise Saturday morning....briefing at 6am then most hit the water in search of the bass and yellas. The fishos were spread far and wide over the dam but alas not many fish were caught on the Saturday. The weather conditions were glorious ..fine, warm and sunny.

It is amazing how some of these people have their yaks set up.

Saturday afternoon there were various items to keep one occupied...a very informative demonstration on yak safety, test paddles if you wanted one and also a trip down to the dam information centre. A talk from a bloke form SEQWater was very enlightening on the dam and its surrounds.
Of course there was also some liquid refreshments involved during the afternoon.
4pm..show n shine for all the yaks on the central oval. There was most brands of yaks and canoes on show there..quite impressive seeing them all in the one place and good to look over some to get ideas..I sure know I did.

Dinner was another barbie..this time catered by one of the other yak forum groups..I better not put a name up cos I am not sure which one it was.

Sunday dawned..I did not actually see it..I had a sleep in.
Most were back on the lake and quite a lot covered many k's trying to catch the winning fish.
2pm...Presentation time..Garry Fitzgerald with his trusty barrel girl doing a great job as usual.

last but not least was the random draws for 2 new kayaks.

A big thanks to Fitzy for the effort he puts in organising this event. It is fantastic..he has everything covered...especially the safety aspect for all entrants.
Thanks also to Dale and the other members of SWFSA for their efforts also.
This event is growing and hopefully there will be many more.

Gee Pinhead we missed you. We were in the tent in your first photo of your starting post (site 52) . We had the red double Hobie.
It was a great weekend and a fantastic event but I think the elusive bass and yellas were laughing at us by the end.
    Cheers
