bimini double on the main line and an albright leader, how many twists do you use on the bimini? guessing it takes some time to get these knots down pat for a quick change

Slim Beauty, no double...............you don't need it.

I started using the slim beauty a couple of weeks ago after someone here suggested it and I cannot believe how simple it is yet how strong it is. Must be 90% for a braid/mono connection. The good news is that the mono tag lies back up the braid whereas the albright leaves the tag pointing the other way and sometimes catches the line when casting on threadline reels.
    Try it and see.

Take a look at a double grinner. I find them very easy to tie even on water.

I use either the Slim Beauty or Improved Albright. For flicking lures on a rod with small guides, I prefer the Slim Beauty as the leader tag points back up the rod and won't catch on the guides. Otherwise, I generally use the Albright as it is a touch easier to tie (but both are easy) in the boat without putting on my glasses.

All my fishing is in NT (I now live there, on the bank of the McArthur River). at King Ash Bay.

For lure flicking, I often use a Jack Erskine style twisted leader, but otherwise just a 60 or 80 lb leader tied to the braid.

With the warm weather, barra are coming on in a big way. Biggest recently was 98 cm (tagged and released) on a big slab of mullet. 30 lb braid with Albright to 60 lb leader. 8/0 Circle Hook snelled to leader.

I also converted over to the "Slim Beauty"a while back now. Great easy to tie knot that casts well.

I just use a "Spider Hitch" for the double instead of tying a Bimini. Very quick and easy to tie. Not as strong as a Bimini I've been told but I have never had a drama with it.

    Cheers,
    Roo.

I agree Roo. Never had a drama with the spider and it takes about ten seconds to tie. Have had braid break before the knot does.

Good time to be here Steve - if the weather is OK. Water will still be pretty warm and the run off from the wet season should have things humming. This year we had Cyclone Paul in late March, major flooding, all roads closed, Easter fishing comp postponed, etc. But that was a bit unusual.

    Does anyone use wind-on leaders?

Re: what is best Knot for tying Braid to leader for NT barra

I use to use a wind on leader, used the knotted dog ones,
now I use a bimini twist, with at least 30 turns in 15lb to 25lb, use more twists for heavier line, joined to my leader, of at least 60 lb usually 80 lb, Penn 10X, with a snap swivel at the end of at least 120lb,
this is my standard Barra rig, just never know when a big girl will climb on it

As others mention,I just use the Slim Beauty with no double whether using 30lb braid and 60 leader, 50lb braid and 80 leader on big Dam barra.
I got this idea when I started of Jason Wilhelm and he told me he never uses a leader, just the rig above.
I proved it to be as good as you can get and saves all the extra mucking around with doubles etc.
    Cheers
