    cofused on jigheads

    Hi,
I been confused over jigheads and was wounding is there certain weather conditions they are use for?
and, are they made to match certain types of soft plastics?
Any advice or help would be grateful.

    Cheers.

That article is a good one to take heed of for hints about jigheads.
Personally I use two different types, weighted wide gap worm hooks for the sleeper plastic or if working around reefy areas as these are rigged snagless. Do not strike these hooks....let the fish hit and run and the hook will come out behind the jaw hinge almost every single time for a solid hook set.
For non snaggy areas I use Darter style jigheads like the squidgy finesse range, they give an erratic retrieve and are usually light weight jig heads. I seldom fish with more than 1/4 ounce in any river or shallow reef unless it is unusually high current area.

Standard rule is to match the hook to the bait, then go as light as you can to effectively fish the depth required in the run present. That means changing jig heads anywhere up to half a dozen times during one tidal flow just to effectively regulate the weight.

Different shaped heads do give different actions, but I find that 4 or 5 different weights in each hook size will cover all my requirements with just the darter jig head shape.

The TT Lures HWS pattern is also a good standby for minimal run situations as it gives a horizontal sink style with very slow drop, perfect for bream in snaggy areas where you can almost suspend a plastic in the snags for action.
    Jack.
