    Nissan Pathfinder good or not

Still after a 4x4 for a bit of light beach work yet comfy on the road.
I was going to keep my old patrol but the missus wont go shotgun.
I tell her she's got enough padding but for some reson she crakes it.
I was thinking NISSAN Pathfinder Pajero but im not shore about insurances and relyablity and replasement parts.
I'm looking at all types of 4x4 wagons
eg nissan jeep pajero Ive evan thought of the 80s landcruisr etc.
But with a budget of about 10k .
Can it be done or am i dreaming.
Q:Which cars cop the dearer insurances?
and is there a list of which ones to stay away from.

At $10k you're looking at the older pathfinder, right? I had a 2001 R50 which went ok on the beach. Never did extreme 4wding with it though. It was a bit thirsty but no worse than petrol prado/pajero/challenger etc, I reckon.
Insurance was ok from memory - although strangely enough my landcruiser (much more expensive) is about the same.

The pathy isn't a full sized 4wd though - definitely "mid" sized so check that it is big enough for you. Other option was the Challenger. Same size, same price roughly. If it is only for 2 people and not doing anything extreme then the pathy or challenger are probably good options and you'll save some money compared to prado/pajero/cruiser of same age.

I take it the old Patrol is leaf spring given your comment about comfy. If thats the case pretty much any of the all round coil sprung 4WD's will do the trick.

Pathy and Pajero IMO are both underated and throw in a Disco as an option also.

I have a 96 Pajero Petrol 3.5ltr and honestly has cost me bugger all in 7-8 yrs.Apart from service items ie filters lubes etc all i have done is a water pump, clutch and top radiator hose, just keeps on going with no fuss and comfy.

No the Patrol is 1988 coil spring its just the seating and being a 5sp manual.
Ive got a stuffed up back and gear changes gives me curry.
The old girl still has a lot of years left in her just not with me.
I'm partial to the Jeep wagons. 6CYL add LPG.
    But parts have me concernd

    Swampman,

I am selling a 2001 Diesel Jackaroo in the "others for sale' section here. Its a great car. Has been very reliable and economical for me. Full service history etc. I have had it since 50000km and it truely hasn't skipped a beat. Did 1 trip to fraser a couple of years back, and it did it easy...only time its ever been on the beach.

Just an option if your interested.

    Cheers Steve
