Just wondering. You think if they kill crocs then they would kill barra. But I see one of the frog plastics comes in canetoad colour. I am having these strange ideas of a giant canetoad hunt - then feeding 20 or 30 swimming cane toads down a big canetoad burley trail
dunnol, spose they would if the toad was floundering around on the surface, can't really tell what they are if you were stalking them from below. dunno if it would kill them though.
Coincidentally, toads only kill fresh water crocs, I was watching a doco a while back, and the poison does not affect the salties, something to do with their stomach acid being strong enough to destroy the poison or something. Then they went on about freshies, the toads do kill them and they were worried about the kimberly populations of some 'pigmy' freshwater crocodile I think they called it. When the toads were first introduced, Qld's freshie population plumetted but there were enough numbers there initially to allow them to recover somewhat, and this 'new' generation of freshie has learnt not to eat them. The concern with the western freshies is that they do not have the large population base to allow for a cull and rebuild or something like that anyway. And they way they breed those donkey sized toads in the NT....bloody hell, have you seen the size of some of those bastards?
Barra frogs are a brownish colour, similar to a cane toad. So I would imagine that is why they are bring out a lure colour similar to this.

They may well eat them, but I would imagine its not good for them.
As for colours? I think the primary instinct a barra chases a surface presentation like a frog (ie fast ,contunuous, rythmic pulsing action) on the surface is instinct...not colour or because they think its actually a frog. It something that is getting away from them that is possibly a food source...primal instinct to chase and eat is the result. I would think an attempt at regurgitation would occour if it didnt taste right...or it had a cirlce worm hook in it!

Once watched one swim across the East Alligator at Cahills Crossing. He swam across slowly, and nothing came near him.
I havent seen a croc or a barra eat one. Never found one in the stomach of either of them as well.

I have seen black clouds of cane toad tadpoles on lake borumba I could not see past them into the water 50mx50mtres like paint in the water
nothing seemed to be interested in them I know theres no barra there you would think the shags would eat anything that swam

Did you know red claw will eat cane toads!
I got a mate who works on a red claw yabby farm, he tells me they don't last long at all when they hop (or get chucked) in to the ponds.

Bass will eat baby Cane Toads. I've often seen them caught on a live toad under a foam float in my Brother's dam.
