I've had a couple of pre-loved rods which have found their way too the back of the rod rack. The rods themselves were fine but the grips tended to be a bit on the slippery and cracked side... all in short looking tiered.
So I grabed some packing tape and some light grit sandpaper and started to remove the top surface of the rod grips. Pretty easy too do really, just protect the reel seat with tape and any bindings that might be close too the grips. Just slowly turn the rod as you are working the paper over the grips. The end result was good the grips came back to a good feel and the overall finish didn't look bad either.
I just thought that this might save someone from having to totally replace their grips due to wear and tear issues. This can be a tricky job... been there done that!
