    Camera mount for solo trips

Who films themselves while fishing solo? Id love to see your camera setup. Im looking for ideas to mount a camera.

Is it all too hard on your own, or is it possible?

    cheers

I have just been playing around with a gopro hd hero on my boat. I bought the motorsport kit for my motorbike, and it came with a huge suction cap mount that hangs onto the boat really well. I will post up some clips of lucinda and 1770 when I get back.

Here is another one to try, tiny little camera that you can attach to just about anything, works great, and comes with a few different fixed mount attachments.

There are some youtube videos of the camera, attached to model airplanes.

    Cheap as chips as well.

Head cams work great as well. Good quality footage and pretty cheap.

I use one of these http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod5681.htm

    and one of these http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod23.htm

What would be really handy is a remote control but works ok.

Camera records in MP4 format though which I couldn't edit with moviemaker so I use this http://www.serif.com/movieplus/

This is a pic of the set up I use ,which is basically a camera Balljoint tripod mount fitted to a rail clamp system I made myself, out of a marine BBQ Rail clampand a water proof housing for the cam

And also a link to another system I am thinking about using ...The Fat Gecko....

A wide angle lens for the Cam is also a good idea

Re: Camera mount for solo trips

    Willo's setup is great !!!!!

You definately need a wide angle lense. 0.45x is perfect.
You will also need a polarised lense to cut down on glare.
Get the right size lense, don't use a step ring.
If an open boat then a water proof housing is a must, you can get away without one in a bigger boat, but the added advantage of the water proof housing is that you can easily throw the camera underwater if needed & I can tell you, there are times when you will. I use my underwater housing all the time, they are great.

And a long life battery won't go astray either... something that lasts about 7 hours will do.

Finally my mount. Made it myself from a few bits n pieces I had in the garage... an old busted tripod, an old alvey winch clamp & some gal tube. Mines about 8 years old now & still going strong. It out lasted the camera!!!!

Thats the same mount that comes with the go-pro, except mine only has one suction cap. I was surprised how powerful that suction cap is. It does have a few issues on the boat if there is any dried up salt, but a quick wipe down and it becomes a permanent fixture of the boat.

Th go-pro camera I have is wide angle. I am very impressed with it so far.

Re: Camera mount for solo trips

Some great setups there guys, thanks for the feedback. All the mounting brackets seem fine. I should have mentioned that I do a lot of night fishing up creeks for jacks, so I need a spotlight setup too.

When a fish hits, there isnt much time to flick a lot of switches......so can I get a combined camera spotlight that would suit? I dont wanna drop a fish while Im turning a camera on, so One Touch record and lighting will be essential. Maybe a helmet cam will be the go? Anyone done helmets?

Difficult challenge for solo, I know. I need a mate who will do the late hours and hold the camera.

    cheers
