Thread: HDS to raymarine s1000 auto pilot nmea connections

Re: HDS to raymarine s1000 auto pilot nmea connections

Many thanks Gary for your comments.

My Navman 5507 Chartplotter doesnt want to talk to Raymarine s1000.

I have tried Raymarine orange to Navman NMEA +white no go

    I then tried

Raymarine Orange to Navman white +
    and
Raymarine Blue to Navman Black - Ground no go

Chart plotter and raymarine share same power ground - and also linked to same power bank +.

I have been testing it at the marina dock at Akuna Bay after I get standby and three bars on the raymarine, with the plotter sending a course route to the ap, with the s100 set to track and I have also tested it whilst on the move.

In the dock if it is going to work I should get a too slow signal on the s100. Is that correct.?

No initializing s100 just constantly comes up with No GPS Fix. I am a layman but I think it could have something to do with the negative NMEA going to ground in the Navman chart plotter from what I have read on the web NMEA should oscsilate from positive to negative. I am not sure the signal out of Navman nmea is doing this, the voltage out from Navman NMEA appears low in comparison to navbus voltage output.

I have good satelite fix on the plotter. All sentances tagged NMEA out tagged.

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Thanks Seaspirit

Re: HDS to raymarine s1000 auto pilot nmea connections

    Success at last.

After a considerable number of days willing my s1000 to get a gps fix,I finally got a result yesterday after fitting a Raymarine multiplexer. The dock masters at Akuna Bay were clapping and relieved to get rid me off the dock after my extended efforts to get the damn thing to work.

I put the problem down to a low output from NMEA out of the Navman 5507 chart plotter when connecting it to the S1000. The raymarine multiplexer picks up power from the s1000 wires and that boosts the NMEA signal in. More cost but it works at last.

Afew issues still to resolve, the radio link from the s100 to the s1000 seem sensitive. I want to place the s1000 behind the fibre glass panel below the gear and power control leaver away from other cables. It doesnt seem to like that position as the link keeps dropping out. I would have thought that was an ideal spot only a meter from the s100, so still need to reslove where the best place is to site it to maintain communication. Anyone got any thoughts on where best to p[osition the s1000.

I also have a very minor fluid leak from one of the hydraulic pipes which I think I will have to replace.

Testing the s1000 out yesterday seems fine in auto mode but following a route its all over the place. I will need to get a handle on the adjustment more to get the best out of it.

Thanks for the advice on the subject so far, cant explain the joy of seeing the too slow come up on the s100 to say it was getting a gps fix.

    Cheers Seaspirit.

Re: HDS to raymarine s1000 auto pilot nmea connections

Installed mine today between other jobs

    Couple of queries for you guys who have been through the wiring if I may;

Grounding the course computer - does this need to be done? If so can I just ground it on the -ve bus bar or does it need to be straight to the battery?

Also I am using a Lowrance 7200C plotter. I hope I have all the NMEA connections correct but could some one confirm that you only need to hook the Yellow Transmit on the Lowrance for Com 1 to the Orange receive on the S1000 and no other wires (signal ground etc). Also when configuring the NMEA port settings do you leave all the sentence option boxes ticked or just specific ones?

One other thing - the mounting system for the motor/valve is different from the manual. I have two rubber mounts at either end instead of the steel frame in the middle that had the other isolation mounts. Same on everyone else s? Hope it is just an upgrade.

    Thanks for any assistance

    Cheers

Whist I am no expert, here's my thoughts.

I took my rf ground to the battery although I could have ground it to the -bus bar. There has to be a reason why thats in the manual.

Re NMEA connection one wire seems to have worked for some, two for others.
Trail and error. You know its working when the s100 comes up with too slow when you press pilot on auto or track assuming you are stationary.

Siteing the s1000 seems sensitive you may need to check it gets a link where you intend to site it. Make sure its away from cables.

It works on mine with all NMEA sentances ticked. I am sure that you dont need all of them but I havnt got that far.

I also have rubber mountings on mine. Contemplating putting the pump on a thick rubber mat to deaden pump noise when in use.

Still trying to get the hang of the settings on mine. Pooring with rain in Sydney today so may have to leave that one for a week.

    Good Luck

    Cheers Tony

Greg I mounted mine on a 6mm sheet of rubber, My pump is horizontal and mates is vertical.. both with no problems

Thanks guys - success today. Didnt really touch anything, changed some settings on the GPS and rebooted the course computer and I finally got to the "Too Slow" message. Water test to go next time on the briney but was a very simple install. Just need to either shorten the hoses or fit a 90 deg elbow.

Will see how the noise goes - it should be no prob underway.

    Cheers

Hello Guys, sorry to drag up an old thread but I am thinking of getting an S1000 system for my boat. A couple of questions, will it work at a slow speed, ie 2-3 knots for trolling, and how noisy is the pump when running? Are you all happy with it after having it for a year?
    thks, Brad.

Re: HDS to raymarine s1000 auto pilot nmea connections

I have had mine running for over 12months now it was the best thing I have ever bought for my boat they are awsome. Yes it dose work at 2 to 3 knots yes the pump dose make a bit of noise but the benefits far outweigh any issues. we troll baits and lures regularly and in poor conditions you just set and forget. coming home from the shelf put in home way point push a button and takes you straight to the spot. I could not believe how well it worked one of my mates has one now also and raves about it

Yep same here. Best thing I put in the boat. Trolling patterns are great and for the money it would be the best AP for small outboard powered boats. Noise is not bad, especially when you are offshore - barely hear with it mounted in the cabin.

Thks guys you have talked me into it haha.. I do a fair bit of my fishing alone and just rerigging while trolling is difficult. I have found them for $1160 + $40 freight in Aus, does anyone know anywhere thats better than that atm?
