I bought mine there today (salisbury store) - exceptional pricing ($50 for the big one) - very helpful and so much cheaper than bias

I also think that the RAM mounts are excellent for light weight sounders but are not so good with heavy ones.I know with my 798 I have been looking for other alternatives for a while now because its just to heavy.

Well .... I set up the HDS5 on the bow using the Heavy duty ram mount - I reckon I wont need to bend over very much to change the settings. Actually its pretty good and that extra 6 " makes a world of difference ....leave it alone

Anyhow - As I've used the big ram mount once the 998 arrives - I will be able to try it at the helm & bow pretty easily

I'm with Matt Fraser, mount it on it's normal sturdy bracket on the bow. You can see it from the front, the console and the back, no need to turn it around at all. My boat is only 4 metres long and I can see it from everywhere but if your boat was loads bigger it may get a bit harder from the back. I still look at my front sounder even though I now have 1 mounted at my driving position as well. I now have a hds 8 with side imaging as well and use it to look out the other side of the boat. It's interesting to watch barra on either side of the boat. cheers scott.
