C'mon Ausfishers, I can't believe that so few people have responded...It's not hard to respond, and the information gathered from this survey won't be used against you!
I saw surveys being done but was not approcaed.
I was approched and answered questions
I was approched, answered questions and catch inspected

I'd be interested to know what the purpose is of the various surveys..are that a broad bassed survey or are they for something specific.
as far as a broad bassed survey, the times when the surveyors are at the ramps would skew the results.
If surverys were only taken on weekends during the day when boat trafic was high.....it may overestimate the fishing effort, but under estimate fishing sucess.
and if the regular surveys are done at particular ramps..well the whole demographic would be skewed to the situation at that particular ramp.
interesting.
cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
Infofish (or one of affiliated projects) does boatramp surveys, and at one point they roped in a government department to use traffic counters on ramps and car parks. The result did 2 things, provided councils with traffic and use data for ramp and parks, and also proved info on rec boating use. The same data could no doubt be correlated to catch effort if used wisely.
There needs to be another option in the Poll. Saw a Survey being conducted, was asked would I like to participate and declined. Happened at Maroochy river a few times up stream on the south side of the Bridge.
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
here is some info about 1 of the surveys I think you are talking about...

recreational fishers allow fish they have caught to be measured at boat ramps, popular land-based fishing locations (e.g. Fraser Island and the Gold Coast) and at fishing tournaments
About 8 months ago a lovely young lady was asking the same questions at Lake Tyers in Victoria. Maybe Fisheries ARE trying to get it together and help us poor fishos. Or are they just spending the Gov't grants? MMMMMM!
Been aproached and participated twice. Once at Mooloolaba boat ramp for spotties during the season just past and once for spanish at the start of the year. No problems.
Never, in all my 25 years fishing the bay have i ever been approached.
Never had a ramp inspection, but many times on the water...all recently good experiences..friendly helpfull etc. Couple of times at the 4 beacons during mac season, last time in the Rous (I think that was water police, although fisheries were around as well)
A number of years ago however, I was checked somwhere down the pin, and the attitude was down right aggressive..as though they actualy suspected me of something and were pissed off they found all in order...I think they might have thought I was someone else!!
