Transducer makes clicking sound when on.

As the title says my Transducer makes clicking sound when on.

Is it broken, I'm pretty sure its scaring the fish away cause my catch rate increases when it not on.... It a lowrance sounder not sure which model.

just make sure it's in the water too. They are louder when in the air.
They'll stuff up pretty quickly if turned on in the air....especially the more powerful ones.

I've always found the sound tends to be more noticeable in shallow water. I guess that would be due to the minimial distance the sound waves are having to travel before returning to the transducer. Can become annoying.

Is that right Finga? I've always thought it would be bad to power up your sounder whilst out of the water but never really new why. Just figured it can't be good. What does it actually do? How does it cause the tranny to fail?

    Hey all,

Ive had 2 lowrance sounders (xANCIENT and x51) and both have done the same thing. I turn it off when sitting because i agree that the catch rate lowers with it on. and it annoys me on quiet nights.

    Cheers

I just dont remember it previously being as loud a clicking noise as it is atm.
I have only been down the estauries lately so it may be a shallow water thing but i'll try it this weekend out at sea.

I'm also pretty sure about 6 months ago I accidently left the sounder on and travelled about 5kms home, no longer than a 5 min trip and then turned it off.

Yeh urban myth Finga!! Just talk to the guys at Trymax Marine, they leave them going( even the powerful ones) on the bench all day and night looking for intermitant faults and there fine!!

They do say in the manuals that you shouldn't run them out of water , but according to the experts it does them no harm at all they just warm up a little!
