do i need to upgrade avet lx reel straight out of box

Hi im new to site need some help just got avet lx single speed for livebaiting off rocks for kings and whatever else feels hungry not sure if they need upgrade or not can anybody help me please

check it out has nothing about drag upgrade from what i could see hopefully doesnt need one

I have greased the drag washer on my JX very lightly with Cal`s reel and drag grease.
This will help protect the metal drag plate against corrosion.

If you don`t feel confident to do this yourself, you would be best to give it to your local tackle shop and get a professional to do it.

My reel looks like new inside after nearly 5 years of use, but I do maintain it fastidiously.

As with ANY new reel, I'd strip it and make sure all the bearings are packed properly and that all the internals are oiled and greased as appropriate.
You'd be surprised with how many brand name reels that are essentially dry when you get them.

Thanks mate but avet recommend you dont grease or lube the drag washers because they say u lose drag pressure and i thing there carbon fibre washers does the JX have the same drag washers as LX.

I`m not sure which model LX you have, but I would say it is the same washer if your reel is the same age as mine.
Avet glue some of their drag washers on now.
I am aware that Avet recommend a dry washer. It is entirely your choice to go dry or greased.
Personally, I like all my reels to have greased carbontex drags, but that is my choice for my reels.
Get on Alan Tani`s site and have a read of some of the "drag washer" posts and you can then make up your own mind about it.

cheers mate i still havnt got it yet on its way from yanks so should be latest model.i decided to get some of cal's grease and lightly grease them every now then thanks for help cheers

I have Avets and Cant see why you would be needing to upgrade the drag?
They are pretty well built.

Anyway why not wait till it arrives and see?
