G'day guys,

I've been fishing exclusively with lures for 8 months now, and I seem to do OK sometimes but consistency just isn't there. I usually fish with my girlfriend, who will throw a lure around half a dozen times before getting bored and sticking some prawns on.

On Tuesday, we were fishing the Noosa river and she was slaying the bream on prawns, and I went through $30 worth of 2" Gulp shrimp that was getting absolutely annihilated by them but I struggled to convert the big hits to hook ups.

Once dusk hit, we moved spots anticipating a bit of surface action from some trevally. They were there alright, busting up all around us, slicing through the water all over of the place. I was throwing a 35mm clear popper around, and again I was getting follows and small hits, but couldn't convert these into landed fish. I was using a bunch of different retrieves...a constant, steady wind - blooping it along the surface - bloop with a 2-5 second pause etc.

I'm fishing with a Daiwa Tierra 2500 spooled with 6lb Fireline on a Silstar 2-5kg fibreglass rod. I'm planning on upgrading to a 1-3kg graphite rod soon which may assist me, but I'm not one to blame equipment over technique.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
